My childhood was in Detroit, Michigan, before my mom decided to move my brother and I here to San Antonio, Texas. She was a single mom looking for a better place for her children to grow up. Growing up, it was all about family, faith, the Puerto Rican culture, and the hustle. Living to pay the bills and being grateful for a roof over our heads. In my last corporate job, I worked at a wealth management firm developing educational content in addition to business consulting and coordinating events. This year will mark my tenth year in the financial industry, working in various roles. Growing up watching my mom struggle to make ends meet as a single mom and then having to work myself to help pay bills at a young age was how I thought things were for everyone. During my time working with high-net-worth individuals, I came to see how the other side lived, how people with money were having generational conversations about money. I saw there are genuinely nice people that have money and genuinely want to give back to the community. I also saw firsthand the gap in financial education in the Latinx community and ignited the fire to educate myself and others on financial literacy.

This led me to my educational journey. I started getting licenses to help me learn and teach financial literacy. Additionally, it started me on my doctoral journey. I am currently working towards my Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership at the University of Incarnate Word.

I am doing my dissertation on financial literacy among Puerto Rican women. My goal with Meli the Highflyer as a Money Mujerista is to educate, empower and make talking about finances fun and accessible. If we have financial freedom, we are free to focus on things that really matter, like our families and health.

My undergraduate minor and my Masters from St. Mary’s University were both in International Relations. Learning about other countries, cultures, and traditions has been a passion of mine since I can remember. With Meli the Highflyer, I look to encourage travelers to learn more about the places they visit and be respectful of cultural differences—be a cultured traveler.

Throughout my journey, I have continuously been told that my ambition to be better and continuously evolve was too much. Over the years, I have learned to embrace it and become comfortable—unapologetically ambitious. I have also learned the importance of having a supportive system of people in my circle. People who, regardless of how crazy your idea sounds, will give you a hand and encourage you. At Meli, the Highflyer, Unapologetic ambition consulting will allow you to be bold and dare you to dream beyond your wildest dreams.
